Nandini Sharma earns maiden India call up as BCCI announce squad for T20world cup.

After a rather impressive performance in the WPL earlier this year, Nandini Sharma, the lanky fast bowler from the Delhi capitals has earned her maiden call up to the Indian squad for the women’s world t20 in England in June. Sharma picked up two five wicket hauls and was the leading wicket taker for the capitals in the tournament.

The squad also sees the return of wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia and all-rounder Radha Yadav to the side, while Anushka Sharma, Uma Chetry and Kashvee Gautam have been left out. Kashvee missed out as she was unavailable due to a right knee injury.

The squad, to be led by Harmanpreet Kaur, was announced by the, in Mumbai, on Saturday (May 2). Harmanpreet, who led the team to their maiden 50 over world cup win on that historic night in Mumbai last year will lead the team once again as India will once again enter the tournament as serious favourites.

India's World Cup campaign is set to kickstart on June 14, against Pakistan in Birmingham. Placed in Group A, India will face Netherlands, South Africa, Bangladesh and Australia in the group stage. The top-two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinals which are set to be played at The Oval. The Indian squad for the World Cup will assemble for a training camp before heading to England for a three-match T20I series. The squad for the preparatory series will be the same as that of the World Cup.

Even though India have not enjoyed the best of records in T20’s lately and failed to qualify the last time, they will back themselves to go the distance as their squad boasts of enough big hitters.
