Cummins, Hazelwood and David named as Australia announce preliminary world cup squad.

The exemplary trio of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazelwood and Tim David, who are racing against time to get back to fitness have been picked in Australia’s provisional squad ahead of the T20 world cup in February. Cummins would be raring to go considering he has ample time to recover as he along with Hazelwood were ruled out of the Ashes.

Australia go to an ICC tournament for the first time without Mitchell Starc, but still remain one of the favourites to lift the trophy. Mitchell marsh, who just smoked his way to a riveting BBL hundred will lead the side that has the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Travis Head and Josh Inglis.

“The T20 side has enjoyed a long run of recent success which enabled the panel to choose a balance of players across the variety of conditions Sri Lanka and India may present," Chief Selector George Bailey was quoted saying, as Mitchell Owen and Ben Dwarshius were unlucky to miss out on selection.

Australia will play their Group B matches in Colombo and Pallekele against Ireland, Oman, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe before they travel to India for the super 8 stage.  The squad for the three match series against Pakistan that precedes the world cup will be announced at a later date.
