Deepti Sharma, Laura Wolvaardt among the top names as the WPL gears up for another enthralling season.

As the dust settles on the women’s world cup with the Indian women still basking in its glory, another season of the WPL comes knocking on the doorstep. Ahead of the fourth season of the mega women’s event, Deepti Sharma, India’s player of the match in the women’s world cup final has been released by Gujarat, so has South African skipper Laura Wolvaardt.
Renuka Singh is the only other Indian player in the Marquee group, which also includes Sophie Devine, Sophie Ecclestone, Amelia Kerr and Meg Lanning. Renuka has a reserve price of INR 40 lakh and Wolvaardt INR 30 lakh, while the remaining players are listed at a base price of INR 50 lakh.
Phoebe Litchfield, Harleen Deol, Uma Chetry, Kranti Goud, Pratika Rawal, Pooja Vastrakar and Georgia Wareham are the players in the elite pool list that have set their base price at 50 lakhs.Bangladesh's Shorna Akter and West Indies' Jahzara Claxton are the youngest capped players to feature in the list.
A total of INR 41.1 crore will be given to the franchises following their retention announcement with UP warriors having retained just Shweta Seherawat having the largest purse at 14 crores. Champions Mumbai Indians and finalists Delhi Capitals will have INR 5.75 crore and INR 5.7 crore respectively. There will also be eight Right To Match (RTM) cards at play, with the Warriorz holding four of them.
This particular women’s premier league season holds more importance for Indian women to get their squad right as the all important T20 world cup beckons in England in July. As Harman said in the post match presentation after winning the ODI world cup, India need to make it a habit of winning trophies, the women could do what the men did, by picking up two consecutive ICC trophies.
