Faf Du Plessis withdraws from IPL 2026 auction.

In a rather surprising move, Faf Du plessis has withdrawn his name from the IPL auction 2026. The talismanic opener who was a part of two IPL victories with the Chennai Super Kings has decided to move on from the league that gave him so much in his career.

Du Plessis made his IPL bow in 2012 for Chennai Super Kings, scoring 398 runs in his debut season. It remained his most productive season until the 2020 edition where he surpassed 400 runs for the first time and won the titles with the men in yellow in 2018 and 2021

Post 2022, his form dipped a bit. In 2023, he was bought by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and he also captained the side. The 2024 season was a memorable year for RCB as they qualified for the season after being last on the table scripting one of the most remarkable comebacks in IPL history.

But 2025 wasn't the best year for Faf. He was not retained by RCB and ultimately picked by the Delhi Capitals. He had a moderate campaign where he scored just 202 runs at an average of 22.44 and that did not help DC’s cause as they failed to qualify for the playoffs.

“After 14 seasons in the IPL, I've decided not to put my name into the auction this year," du Plessis wrote in a social media post. "It's a big decision, and one that comes with a lot of gratitude when I look back. This league has been a massive part of my journey. I've been lucky to play with world-class teammates, for amazing franchises, and in front of fans whose passion is like nothing else.

Fourteen years is a long time, and I'm proud of what this chapter has meant to me. India has a special place in my heart, and this certainly isn't a goodbye - you'll see me again." Faf was quoted saying.

Faf du plessis now crosses borders and is all set to take part in the upcoming PSL for the upcoming season. He has played for the Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi, he aims to start fresh in the league as he also concluded by saying that this will be a new challenge for him.
