India start off the home season on a familiar note, but not without hiccups.

When Washington Sundar was cleaned up by Ajaz Patel in the final test match at the Wankhede Stadium last year, it capped off one of the worst finishes to their home season, which was a fortress until then. New Zealand came, conquered and left Indian fans fuming. The coach and captain were searching for an answer.
Since that day, a lot has indeed changed. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravi Ashwin, all have retired and Shubman Gill has led this team quite brilliantly. The series in England was one for the ages and now he wraps up a series against Windies and prepares himself against South Africa from mid November.
In the absence of Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar and Ravinda Jadeja ticked off the obvious boxes and spun a web against a struggling Windies side. Even though this was a curtain raiser of sorts, it was important to start off on the right note.
But then there were those minor hiccups of not clearing the tail, letting the Delhi test go into the fifth day and not bowling the all rounders, but those were minor blips in the otherwise flawless start to the season.
Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel were amongst the runs as well and with all of them getting 100s, India will be relieved that the fans have found their voice back and with the long home season coming up, including the T20 world cup, the Gambhir- Gill duo seem to taking giant strides in the right direction.
