IPL 2026 Mini Auction review : Green is the new purple, CSK re-define age norms as yet another thrilling auction concludes.

In what was expected to be a record breaking bid for Cameron Green, the Kolkata Knight Riders pipped the Chennai Super Kings and bought the all rounder for a whopping 25.20 crores at the IPL 2026 Mini auction. Green is now the third Australian to fetch a fee in excess of INR 20 crore - after Starc and Pat Cummins (INR 20.5 crore) did it in 2024.

However, he will get only 18 crores as the rest of the 7.2 crores will go to the BCCI as per their guidelines, which were issued last year. KKR also brought Matheesha Pathirana for a whopping 18 crores, making him the highest paid Sri Lankan player ever. RCB and KKR engaged in yet another bidding war for Venkatesh Iyer with the former winning the battle at a price of 7 crore.  Venkatesh Iyer and Rajat Patidar, who have high regards for each other, will now play with each other for RCB.

Chennai Super Kings, who had the second highest purse stayed quiet for most of the first hour, just buying Akeal Hossein quietly. However, they pulled a cat out of the bag as they picked up two relatively unknown young guns in Kartik Sharma and Prashant Veer for 14.20 crores each, which indicates that they are going the Gen Z route.

The Rajasthan Royals, who grabbed headlines for their trade buys made an important addition to their squad as they got hold of Ravi Bishnoi, as they won yet another war with CSK, this time on the bidding table. With Donovan Ferrera, Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran and now Ravi Bishnoi, RR have been terrific with their team selection and now we see how they perform on the field.

Punjab Kings, although a settled unit, added another Aussie to their squad as they picked up Ben Dwarshius. With an enviable all rounder list already there, Dwarshius is another terrific addition to a squad that played some enthralling cricket last season. Sheryas Iyer, who was also present in the auction also acknowledged the picking of Copper Conolly, another Australian and said that he personally loved his mental toughness as a player.

Speaking of the Aussies, another Aussie, Tom Moody, helped the Lucknow Super Giants team to pick Josh Inglis for a record price of 8 crores. With Mars, Markram and Pooran already there, Inglis will provide a flexibility to open the innings as well. Having secured Mohammad Shami in the trade and a fast bowling line up that is one of the most potent in the tournament, LSG will hope that all of them are fit as they still search for their maiden title..

The Sunrisers Hyderabad had a strange auction this time. Like CSK, they were quiet till they suddenly decided to invest in Liam Livingstone. Head, Abhishek, Kishan, Klassen and now Livingstone. Their top order is as good as any in the league and getting Shivam Mavi to add to their variety in the bowling department is another strategic move. Pat Cummins once again will have a good selection headache, but Sunrises this time look that extra robust to go the full distance.

Mumbai Indians made headlines when they bid for Cameron Green, although on a lighter note. They eventually got their talisman opener in Quinton De Kock and the last time he and Rohit Sharma opened for MI, we all know what happened. A couple of youngsters picked it up for a reasonable price and they set it to make it number 6.

The Gujarat Titans made some impressive additions too with Jason Holder being one of them. They snapped up Ashok Sharma for 90 Lakh. Ashok, another Rajasthan represent, is the current leading wicket-taker in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with a knack to bowl quick and he might play the perfect foil to the likes of Rabada and Mohammad Siraj.

Ten teams with the right concoction of youth and experience. Ten teams raring to go after revamping their squads. Ten teams who will once again fight it out once again for the coveted price. A  riveting IPL 2026 beckons once again.
