Anrich Nortje is a name that is associated with more off field drama than on field hard fought cricket. The fast bowler has been more subject to more injuries than wickets. But, for now, good news for the South Africa fans that he has been recalled for the upcoming T20 series against India next month.
Norte’s return to the side is a major boost since Kagiso Rabada might return home due to a rib injury he picked up during a net session before the first test.Aiden Markram returns to lead the T20I side which also sees the addition of Ottneil Baartman and Test regulars Tony de Zorzi, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj and Tristan Stubbs.
We're really looking forward to this white-ball tour for so many reasons," head coach Shukri Conrad said. "The T20I series in particular is an important opportunity for us to finalise our squad ahead of next year's T20 World Cup, which will also be played in India.
Conrad also emphasised that South Africa will miss Rabda as he has been their key wrecker in chief over the years. “Of course we'll miss KG [Kagiso Rabada] on this tour, but as we saw in the first Test win over India, this group has depth and that is one of our primary goals as a squad; to develop a unit filled with players who can step up at any time.
The limited overs series, which also marks the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli kicks off in Ranchi on the 30th of November. Post the 3 Odis, the action shifts to the shortest format as the first of the 5 T20s kicks off in Cuttack. The action then shifts to Dharamshala, Chandigarh and Lucknow before culminating in Ahmedabad on December 19.
